Costa Rica is a place of contrasts, where volcanoes rise above the rainforest, wildlife moves through the treetops, and the Pacific sets the pace along the coast.

Over seven days, we travel from San José to Arenal and on to the Pacific, experiencing a different side of the country at every stop. Explore rainforest trails, cross hanging bridges high above the canopy, discover hidden waterfalls, and spend time on the water learning to catch a wave.     The years between childhood and adulthood move quickly. As boys grow more independent, the way mothers and sons spend time together naturally changes. Yet travel options designed specifically for this relationship remain limited.

    MoSo fills that gap with experiences that encourage curiosity, independence and shared discovery, without forced bonding, overly structured family activities or a one-size-fits-all itinerary.

    MoSo is where more than 20 years of professional experience, a lifelong curiosity about the world, and my life as a mother of two boys come together.

    Rachel’s career has taken her from experiential marketing and events to international tour operations and luxury travel. Along the way, she has designed experiences around the world, built partnerships, managed complex logistics, and transformed traditional travel products into distinctive brands.

    She has always been drawn to the opportunity to create something new, to rethink what travel can be, how people experience it, and what might be missing. She’s watched the industry evolve around solo travel, women’s travel, adventure, wellness, and more personalized experiences. But one important relationship has been overlooked.

    As the mother of Sebastian and Ace, she knows what it’s like to watch your boys grow up faster than you imagined. You want to give them independence while still finding ways to experience the world together. You want them to discover who they are and explore beyond what’s familiar.

    There are countless family vacations and adventure travel companies, but few are built around the unique dynamic of the mother-son relationship, particularly during the transition from childhood to adulthood.

    She saw an opportunity to create something that didn’t exist. Until now.

    If you pay your Deposit by credit card, you authorize us to charge your Balance to the same credit card and we will charge your card for the Balance on the Due Date, unless you instruct us otherwise in writing by email at least one business day prior to the Due Date. If the Balance is not paid by the Due Date, MoSo Journeys reserves the right to regard the reservation as canceled.

    It’s easy to make a reservation on one of our trips. Simply call us or click the Claim your duo button on the homepage to reserve online. We’ll ask you for a few quick pieces of information and a deposit following our Terms + Conditions. Reserve your space in any of the following ways:

    How do I get to and from the trip?

    When you claim your spots, we’ll send you confirmation details including information on how to get to and from the starting and ending points of the trip. And our team is available to assist with pre- and post-tour hotel and additional guiding arrangements.

    What is the best way to book airfare for my trip?

    Visit your preferred airline’s website, or a comparison site where you can choose between flights from different airlines.

    Is MoSo 1:1, or can I bring more than one person?

    The trips are designed for mothers and their sons, ages 10–18. Most experiences are built around one mom and one son, but you’re welcome to bring two sons within the age range. Traveling with another mom and her son? You can join the same journey together, too. Just reach out to discuss your group and rooming needs.

    Can you create a private journey for me?

    Want to arrange a private trip for your family and friends? We’ll be glad to help by creating a special edition of a trip you see on our website, or a totally unique itinerary based on the destinations and activities you want to include. Please contact us with your wish list and let us help you plan a truly memorable experience.

    Are you vegetarian, gluten free, or have any dietary restrictions?

    We will work to ensure that your dietary needs and preferences are met while on tour. Prior to any trip, we’ll send you a detailed pre-trip questionnaire. This is designed to provide us information on your expectations and any special requests or requirements you may have.

    In that pre-trip questionnaire, we ask you to advise us if you have any dietary restrictions, limitations or preferences. We’ll ask you to be as specific in that as possible. We then pass that information along to our guides and restaurants so that you do not have to worry about it during the trip. If you have specific concerns or questions, please contact us.

    How do you ensure the quality of your guided adventure tours?

    We research and develop our own tours from the ground up. We hire expert local guides who are well-connected in their regions. They help create our tours so they have a personal interest in your satisfaction. We encourage guides to react to your interests and to unexpected events (like a one-day festival or an invitation into a home or school) to make your trip unique.

    Will we stay at the hotels featured?

    It’s always our goal and first choice to stay at the hotels featured, as they reflect the style, comfort, and quality we carefully select for every MoSo journey. While specific properties may occasionally change due to availability or travel arrangements, we always ensure that any alternative meets the same high standards and reflects the experience you can expect from MoSo.

    How can I purchase insurance for my trip?

    Unforeseen events such as flight delays, baggage loss or even a sudden sickness or injury could impact your travel plans. We strongly recommend that you purchase a travel protection plan that includes trip cancellation coverage to help protect you and your travel investment against the unexpected.

    For your convenience, we recommend Allianz for travel insurance. They offer a variety of coverage options so that you can choose the option that best meets your needs. For a quote, or specific questions about coverage options, please contact Allianz directly:

    Terms + Conditions

    The following terms and conditions apply if you are joining one of our regularly scheduled trips listed on our website.

    Confirmation package

    As soon as we receive your reservation and Deposit, we will send you detailed information on what to bring, how to prepare for your tour, a detailed itinerary, trip cancellation insurance application, pre- and post-tour hotel information and MoSo Journeys’ policies.

    Cancellations and refunds

    To cancel your reservation for a tour, please send us an email notifying us of the cancellation. For an abundance of clarity and to avoid any miscommunication, we will not consider a reservation cancelled until we receive an email from you. Based on the date you notify us by email of the cancellation, we will refund your Deposit and/or Balance, less the following fees per tour and/or extension:

    If unforeseen circumstances require a change to the tour itinerary, MoSo Journeys will make every effort to select alternative hotels of the same standard and to keep modifications of the itinerary to a minimum. MoSo Journeys reserves the right to cancel or postpone a tour for any reason.

    If a tour is canceled by MoSo Journeys, you will receive a refund of all payments received, which will constitute a full settlement.

    Arrival and departure

    Each trip begins and ends in a town accessible by plane, train, boat, or bus. Meeting and ending locations are listed in your pre-departure information. For some tours, it may be preferable to arrive at the starting point the night prior to the trip departure date. We will be happy to provide you with instructions on contacting the hotels yourself, or to make these reservations for you. If you would like to have MoSo Journeys make these reservations for you, the hotels require that we provide them with a credit card number to hold these reservations. We will advise you of specific hotel payment policies.

    You are responsible for choosing a trip that fits your abilities, level of fitness and health. If you need any assistance in selecting the right trip for you, please contact MoSo Journeys at 1-858-922-6763. You are also responsible for reading the pre-trip information material and bringing with you all of the appropriate clothing, as well as acting in accordance with the customs and laws of the regions visited. MoSo Journeys reserves the right to accept, remove, retain or decline any trip member at any time for any reason. In such a case, a refund equal to the actual cost of the unused services is the limit of MoSo Journeys’ responsibility.

    Payment of your deposit represents your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions, as well as all general information listed online at www.mosojourneys.com and subsequent trip departure material which are all incorporated herein by reference. MoSo Journeys, LLC, its members, employees, and agents, hereby give notice to you that all services and arrangements related to your tour have been made by MoSo Journeys, LLC only as agents upon the express condition that MoSo Journeys, LLC shall not be liable and does not assume responsibility for any claims, damages, expenses or other financial loss whether to person or property arising out of any injury, accident, death, cancellation, inconvenience, delay, alteration, or required modification to tour dates or tour itineraries resulting from any act, omission, or inadvertence of any hotel, carrier, restaurant, government, or any other person or entity, or that which is caused by weather, sickness, pandemics, strikes, quarantines, or the willful or negligent acts of any other tour members or any other cause whatsoever that is beyond the control of MoSo Journeys, LLC.

    Some days or activities and certain trips are operated by local tour operators contracted with MoSo Journeys, LLC. These operators have been selected for the quality of the services and tours they offer as well as the desirability of the destinations.

    You agree to allow MoSo Journeys, LLC to take photographic or film records of any of our trips and trip participants, including you, and you hereby authorize and license to MoSo Journeys, LLC on a worldwide royalty-free basis the right to use any photos that include image or likeness for promotional and/or commercial purpose, in perpetuity.
